After a few rainy weeks behind us, the weather seems to have finally taken a turn for the better. As the hot sunny days have finally arrived in Salisbury, there are two things you need to ensure.
The first is that you apply enough sunscreen and the second is that your car’s air conditioning is working at its most efficient. Follow these tips to take full advantage of your air conditioning system.
Crack it open
People often switch the AC to the maximum as soon as they get in a hot car. All it does is recirculate hot air, resulting in a boiling hot cabin. Instead, when you encounter a hot car, keep your car windows open for a couple of minutes to allow the hot air to escape and cooler air to enter the car. Do this until you feel like the air from the vents is cooler than the temperature.
Let the air flow
Although we all want to throw our face in front of the AC on a hot summer day in Salisbury, you should avoid pointing the air vents directly towards you. Doing so stops the air from flowing all around the interior of the car. Pointing the vents upwards will ensure that the air is evenly distributed around the car and reaches every passenger.
Use it or lose it
As a part of your aircon maintenance, we recommend using your car’s air conditioning system frequently, even through the winter. Regular use increases the system’s long-term reliability and prevents dirt and bacteria from building up. If you smell a strange odour when the AC is on, it may be a sign of bacteria growth, and you should have it checked and cleaned by a specialist. If you need your air conditioning system to be looked at, feel free to pop into our garage in Salisbury.
Stay on top of aircon maintenance
Regular aircon maintenance is crucial to keep your car’s AC operating at its maximum efficiency. Firstly, you should clean the air conditioning filter regularly. A blocked or dirty pollen filter can reduce the airflow significantly and is also prone to harbouring bacteria. The aircon gas is also critical to ensure that the car's air conditioning system is working properly. However, some of this aircon gas permeates through the system each year. You should change your filter and refill your aircon gas every year or two to ensure that your air conditioning system is operating in tip-top condition. If you need any help with your aircon maintenance, we’re happy to help. The brand new aircon gas machine in our Salisbury garage is suitable to regas any car make or model.
